Races, etc

Last Sunday, when it was so hot that the club uniform changed to whit vests with red skins, the whole club was involved in the Central and South of Scotland League at Wishaw. At the end of the five hour day the team was second and had gained promotion to Division Two. Johnathan in the sprints and Peter and Ian in the Middle Distance events did us proud as usual. There were unfortunately no senior women present but the younger age groups were out in force with Roisin, Claire, Emily and all the rest working hard for the team. It was good to see Kirsty back in action too and the revelation of the day was probably Ryan Nelson running sub-60 for the first leg of the 4 x 400 relay! Gasps all round when he came hurtling into the home straight in third position.
It was also good to see Derek Halpin and club captain Paul Carroll running in the vets 100m and 800m. Paul's run in the 800 was quite excellent - he worked hard all the way to the finish to be second in the A string event while Derek was third B runner. Big points. At the other end of the age scale, Andrew Hunter and David Campbell were first A & B in the 100 and David won the 400 by a distance. Oh for a relay team to back them up!
Thanks to Raymond Farrell, Brian McAusland, Michael Hay and Peter Rudzinsksi for officiating on the day (we lose points of we do not supply the right number of officials) and of course to Phil Dolan whose idea it was to enter this league in the first place.
