West District Championships

The West District Track and Field Championships took place this weekend and were staged over two  days.  Under 14 girl Cara Jordan ran in the 200m on Friday night and ran very well the next morning in the 100m. Despite a determined and well fought race she narrowly missed progressing to the next round. Well done Cara!

The under 16 girls representatives were  Emily Paxton and Rachel Campbell.
Rachel, who has concentrated this season on sprint hurdles, made her debut in the 300m hurdles.  She was delighted with her performance despite missing out on the medals, and is looking forward to competing in this event in the league when she moves up an age group.
Emily ran an exceptional race in the 800m.  Despite finishing in 2:27:58 and faster than some of the winners from other heats,  was unable to progress to the final due to the ‘first two home rule.’ There was further anguish for Emily as she ran in the final of the 300m to finish in a time of 44.9s  only to loose out on a bronze medal following the decision from the photo finish referee. Despite the disappointment, Emily went out the next day to run the Race for Life, 5K in Glasgow and finished in 5th place.  What an achievement.  Well done Emily!
The under 18 boy’s representative was David Campbell who ran in both the sprint and 400m Hurdles.  This was his first 400m Hurdles race of the year and he was delighted with his PB as well securing first place to claim gold,  and the District Championship Title for both events. Well done David.
