The Amigos

At Horwich on Sunday, the three amigos did superbly well being second to Oxford City in the M60 5K. Bearing in mind that they are probably all over 65 this was a good day out. The order of finishing times Pete was the fastest club runner, Brian was next quickest and Bobby third of the trio. More information as it comes!

Well done, Ladies!

As has been noted the club women had a good result in the Scottish Vets Relays at Strathclyde Park on Sunday. Having been put back from the previous week, there was a drop in the number of teams competing but that usually means that the weaker teams drop out - the big guns tend not to miss a championship! And right well did they do iy - Pamela gave them a wonderful start with third place less than half a minute behind Sandra Branney's time and fifth fastest overall for the race. Kath Scott pulled up into second place a huge one minute 14 seconds ahead of the third team and then Marina had another good run but unfortunately the fastest runner of the day - Helensburgh's C Heasman came through from fifth place to second on the stage. Marina ran well enough to be a safe third two and a quarter minutes up on the fourth team. Fifteen teams finished, Pamela was fifth fastest overall, Marina was eight and Kath fourteenth against good quality opposition. Very well done Ladies!

Brampton to Carlisle Results Update

Felt I needed to provide an update to Brian's blog as the results currently available are difficult to read and have missed people. Fiona McCue finished in 1:04:45, Christine Duncanson's result is down as another club as she required a late number change, but she finished in 1:09:14 and Marie Rippon ran in at 1:18:52 - all the girls ran well.

Although the race was short due to the weather it was felt many would have either had 10mile PBs or SBs so agree with Brian's headline and a good race (and night) was had by all.

Well Done at Brampton!

Having just looked at the results from the Brampton to Carlisle Road Race, the club had 13 finishers of whom four were women. Team placings were Senior Men seventeenth out of 29 clubs, Veteran men 10th out of 24 (counting runners were John Foley who was 102nd in 58:02, Bobby Young 107th in 58:28 and Bobby Rossborough 114th in 58:47), Ladies 6th out of 14 teams and the Lady Vets third out of eleven clubs (counting runners were Marina McCallum 148th in 60:36, Aileen Scott 199th in 63:00 and Kath Scott 204th in 63:14.) It was a pity that the fourth Lady - Yvonne Green - didn't collect a medal with her 70:04 timing since she was the only other woman who had travelled but I'm sure that she would have enjoyed it and it would be interesting to note how the time compares with her pb. She was ahead of four of the men - Watson Jones in 70:36, Alexander McDonald in 73:59, Chris Ryan in 76:50 and Colin Gray in 87:57. The other men running were Hugh Watson who was 232nd in 64:32 and David Mitchell in 293rd with a time of 68:11. Well done to all of them - it's good to see these numbers prepared to go so far for a good race.
