The Clydesdale Harriers had no less than ten runners competing in the Polaroid Eyewear Helensburgh 10k. Conditions proved to be ideal with a lot of near personal bests – proving that all the hard training is now starting to pay off. First harrier to finish was over 50 harrier Gerry Montgomery who put in a brilliant performance running a personal best and winning 1st vet 50 prize coming well up the field in a time of 36.16. He was followed a few minutes later by John Foley (39.46). John will be running the West Highland Way Race in a few weeks so 10k’s are a little short in distance for him at the moment! Next was a really exciting battle between Anne Murray and Kath Scott who ran the whole race together but at the end Anne had the faster finish just pipping Kath by 3 seconds (40.53 and 40.56 respectively). Marina McCallum was next not far behind in 41.36. Then more of the men came in: Bobby Young (42.03), Alan Lorimer (43.00), Brian Campbell (43.02). Next in was Yvonne Green narrowly missing out on a pb running 50.37 and lastly, just coming back from injury was Colin Gray (51.49).
The previous weekend (21st) had two harriers going to Bishopbriggs to run the Deafblind 10k. Fastest was again Gerry Montgomery who ran 37.39 and won 1st vet prize, followed by Marina McCallum who ran 43.08 and won 1st lady prize. Also that day was the Cooperative Goatfell Hill Race on the island of Arran. Michael Diver took on the challenge coming 33rd in 1.43.16 for 12k and 880m ascent.
Next race for the harriers is the second in the Polaroid Eyeware 10k Series at Clydebank. Race starts 7.30pm. Note that they are not taking entries on the day.
