Having checked with the website for the Ayr Open Water Sprint Triathlon, I can now tell you that it was made up of 750 metres swim, 20K cycle and a 5K run to round it off. Cliff of Clydesdale Harriers was forty second in 1:23:20 overall with a Jim Shields of Ayr Roads/Harry Fairbairn CC twenty ninth in 1:19:32. In the swim at the start Cliff clocked 14:29 for the course with Jim trailing in 16:34 but then Cliff being less experienced lost a bit of time at the transition and over the hilly route from Doonfoot to Dunure (and believe me, I used to holiday a lot in the area it is hilly!) the times were 45:20 for Cliff and 40:35 for Jim. Then on to the run at the finish, Cliff suffering from tight hamstrings took it a bit easy and did 23:31 with Jim on 22:23.
There is a longer one in Strathclyde Park at the end of July where the distances are 1500m/40K/10K. It would be good to see them out - and they could maybe do with some company from other club members. There are several pics at the race website - I don't know yet if any are of our boys but you might know if you can recognise them in deep water or hunched over a set of handlebars!
