World Mountain Running Championships
As we all know, Prasad Prasad was running in the British team in the World Mountain Running Championships on Saturday in Slovenia - some of his workmates were saying he had just gone for the football but he was taking it more seriously than that. In a field of 149 top class athletes he was sixty first in 64:43, splitting two Polish runners in a sprint finish. He was third counter for the GB team (six to run, four to count) - so well done, Prasad.

Perth Ultrafest
I went through to Perth on Saturday to see Aileen compete for Scotland in the International 24 hour race. Unfortunately the Irish and Welsh teams withdrew leaving only Scotland and England to contest the international fixture. In only her second 24 hour race and first on the road, Aileen finished third woman covering and amazing 177.157 kilometres. There were 28 competitors, the youngest being an M25 and the oldest being a W60. I was only there for two hours plus but found it very entertaining - on the 1400 metres loop you saw the runners at frequent intervals and could actually see positions changing as the race went on. Mind you when I realised at tea time that they were still running, and then getting ready for bed at about midnight thinking the same before getting up in the morning and reminding myself that they still had two hours to go, the reality of the feat really hit home. It's a pity more of the club did not make their way through to see her in action.
There were other races - an open 50K and 100 K race started at 12 noon when the internationalists had been on the road for two hours. Among the familiar faces in these races were Davie Gardner of Kirkie Olympians and Terry Mitchell of Fife who dropped out quite early on when he seemed to be running well.
They tell me 100 miles in 24 hours is quite easy - run for 15 minutes, walk for 5 minutes, and repeat for 24 hours. Mind you it's only 4 miles an hour ..... Who's up for the challenge?

New Month, new track!
It is now September 1st! Information from a local councillor passed on the information that the track at St Peter's would be available for lets from 13th September and the advice was to contact Liz Coles in the Lets Department who has been a good friend of ours for many a long year. With any luck we will be in action on our own track from the middle of the month. No word from the Committee yet - they should use the blog more to keep in touch with the membership - but watch for the information.
This weekend is the one on which Aileen and Prasad are representing the country. Aileen in in Perth - a nice town and easy to get around in. Parking isn't a problem - just get to the Broxden Park and Ride, park the car for free and take the bus into the centre (£1 return). Broxden P&R? The big roundabout that you come to on the way up from Stirling had a road to the left by-passing the town and then heading for Inverness, on the right it heads for Dundee and Aberdeen and straight on, it goes to Perth. Shortly after leaving the roundabout in the Perth direction you get to the P&R car park. I'll head in to give Aileen and any other club runners taking part in the open race a shout. Why not have a good day out in a new part of the country?
We might not make it to Slovenia to see/cheer Prasad but our good wishes are there helping him on the uphill only course!
