It is probably well-known by now that Yvonne Green is stepping down as club secretary at the AGM in April: it's a pity because she is a good secretary and is also the first-ever woman to hold the post. I'll be sorry to see her go, and I'm not the only one. I have also heard that at least one other committee member might be going too.
Committees always need new blood - it is a healthy sign when there is competition for places on the Committee and when there is a spread of ages as well as of interests. When I joined the club there were men and women, track, cross-country and hill running specialists on board as well as all ages in the club being represented. You don't need to be a Committee member to go to the meetings of course but if it comes to a vote, non-members can't be counted.
Let's have a good turn-out for the AGM, coaches - encourage your athletes to go (Derek McGinley and John Tonner always did!) and go yourself - other members make yourself available. We need the Johnathans and Peter Bowmans on the Committee, we need parents onside as well. And if guys like Peter Halpin and Phil Dolan were to stand for office it would be a help too - we need more than one generation there. Putting my money where my mouth is, I would be prepared to come back on but only for a maximum of two years in any capacity that was required.
The Committee could of course re-instate the possibility of parents and friends, former members and others becoming associate members for half subscription rates to serve on the Committee.
Let's have a good turn out and have a range of people as members from April.

Lasswade 10
The Lasswade 10 is one of the better known races on the winter calendar and it is a pity that this year it clashed with the re-dated Nigel Barge. It is a good race over a good trail and this year we had two amigos and Gnerry Montgomery running on Sunday. Gerry was timed at 61:31 for twenty sixth, Bobby Young was 69:26 for one hundred and eleventh and Peter Cartwright was 75:47 for one hundred and nineteenth.

Nigel Barge junior 3k
Well done to Connor Ewing, Claire Reid, Rachel Busby and Roisin McShea who all ran the Nigel Barge 3k at Garscube estate today. Full results will be posted on the blog on Monday when the results are published on the Maryhill Harriers website.

Garscube school race
Well done to P6 Boy Stephen Kane, who finished 9th from a strong field of 34 runners at the 2.2k cross country race at Mugdock park last Saturday, in a time of 10.10 mins
Also well done to S2 Girl Roisin McShea who finished in 1st place in a time of 9.21 mins.

Garscube Harriers Schools races.
The second Garscube Harriers races were held on Saturday and again there were two young Clydesdale Harriers making their mark in open competition. Roisin McShea ran in the S1/S2 race and won by over half a minute with her time of 9:21 being 34 seconds ahead of the second runner. Stephen Kane was tenth in a very competitive P6 Boys race in a time of 10:10 which was just two seconds ahead of the eleventh runner. Well done to them both and with the racing will come the self-knowledge and confidence that will lead to better results.
The only pity is that the club no longer puts on events for the schools or even for young athletes which would give them, and others, the chance of a 'home run' every now and then.
