Club Cross Country Championships
Saturday 11th February - Mugdock
NEW VENUE!

Following a decision taken at the last Committee meeting, Clydesdale Harriers have accepted an invitation by Garscube Harriers to hold our Cross Country Championships at Mugdock Country Park at the same time and venue they use for their Cross Country Championships. The invitation was extended to other Clubs and Maryhill Harriers and Victoria Park City of Glasgow AC also accepted the invitation.

The Committee decided to try this format with the view that it might encourage members to compete in the Championships as Carleith Farm is not easily accessible, has no facilities and the course is not popular.

Important Note:  Whilst there are runners from 4 Clubs taking part your race is against runners from your own Club in order to determine the Championship results and Winter League points.  Club vests MUST be worn at this event (if you don’t have a vest let me know beforehand and I will bring one for you on the day – cost £15).

The races will start outside the Craigend Visitor Centre (the side furthest from the car park) and details of the races are:

Junior Athletes Under 11 - 1.5 miles
Junior Athletes 11 and over 2 miles

Both 1 lap courses starting 11am.

Seniors - Starts 12 noon - Men and Women

Men - 6 miles
3 lap course - (3 laps of the Junior Athletes 11 years and over course)

Women - 4 miles
2 lap course - (2 laps of the Junior Athletes 11 years and over course)

All distances are approximate.

The Club need to help with Marshalls, if you can assist with marshalling the event please let me know asap.

Marshalls will be issued with tea tickets to the value of £4 per official for use in the Stables Tearoom which is located in the courtyard at the Craigend Visitor Centre. Officials should obtain a tea ticket from Stuart Irvine Garscube Harriers.

Directions to the Venue: From the centre of Glasgow take the Clydeside Expressway (A814) westwards for about 2 miles. Take right hand lane (opposite slip road for the Clyde Tunnel) signposted The North, Aberfoyle on to Balshagray Avenue (A739). Follow the A739 for approximately 3 miles through Anniesland Cross to Canniesburn Toll. At Canniesburn Toll Roundabout take the second exit on to the A81 (signposted Milngavie). Continue on the A81 for 1¾ miles to Burnbrae Roundabout on the outskirts of Milngavie. Continue straight on to Main Street. Continue on Main Street/Woodburn Way for ¼ mile to traffic lights at cross roads. Turn left at traffic lights into Ellangowan Road which is opposite the entrance to the Tesco Superstore. After 200 yards proceed straight through roundabout into Mugdock Road. Follow Mugdock Road for about 1 mile past Mugdock Road and Mugdock Village to cross roads. At crossroads bear left. Entrance to the car park at Craigend Visitor Centre is on the left about ¾ of a mile after crossroads

Alternative Route from Milngavie recommended in bad weather

From the roundabout at Burnbrae bear right (3rd exit) into the A81 Glasgow Road towards Strathblane. Follow this road for about 2.75 miles passing the Milngavie Reservoirs on the left and Esporta on the right. Turn left into a side road clearly marked "Mugdock Country Park."  At the crossroads at the end of this road bear right to rejoin the above route and follow signs for Visitor Centre.
