The weekend of the 12th had three Clydesdale
Harriers travelling to run the Isle of Mull Half Marathon. In extremely hot
conditions excellent times were recorded over the undulating course. Fastest harrier was Hugh Laverty who finished
in a time of 1.30.01, followed by Marina McCallum (1.35.19 and 3rd
Female), and Christine Duncanson (1.43.02). The women joined forces with a
Bellahouston Road Runner to finish as 1st
Female team.
The previous weekend was the Helensburgh Half Marathon where
there was no less than nineteen harriers running. Fastest harrier and 8th
overall was Paul Carroll finishing in a time of 1.17.26 (1st vet
over 40), followed by Brian Campbell (1.20.48), Robert O’Neill (1.23.19),
Donald Cameron (1.24.44), Gerry Montgomery (1.24.44), Kevin Farmer (1.25.52),
John Fox (1.26.22), Pamela McCrossan (1.28.40 and 1st vet over 50),
Stuart Allison (1.32.25), Anne Murray (1.32.57), Hugh Laverty (1.37.37), Fiona
McCue (1.40.37), Marina McCallum (1.43.00), Steven McKee (1.53.55), Trisha
Stevenson (1.57.58 pb), Christine Duncanson (1.58.04), Colin Gray (1.58.24),
Evelyn McKee (2.03.05), and Mairi Fox (2.03.05). Pamela, Anne and Fiona were also winners of 2nd
Female team.
Also that day was the Scottish Gas 10k at Granton,
Edinburgh. Yvonne Green ran well to finish in a time of 46.37 over the
predominantly flat course.
Next races for the harriers include the Paisley 10k (26th)
and the friendly match race in Stornoway (track and field) at the beginning of
September.
