Clydesdale Harriers were busy last weekend with no less than
four races taking place. The Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run 10k and Half
Marathon had some excellent results. Results next week.
Two marathons took place. The first was the Highland
Perthshire Marathon which took place in and around Aberfeldy. Gerry Montgomery
ran well to finish as 2nd vet over 50 in a time of 3.18, followed by
Pamela McCrossan, making her debut at the marathon distance, and who finished
as 1st Lady in a time of 3.24.
The second marathon that weekend was the Moray Marathon
which had Paul Carroll winning the race in a brilliant 2.48 (pb), followed by
Robert O’Neill in 3.09. Paul was also winner of 1st vet over 40 so a
good day for him!
The previous weekend had three races taking place for the
harriers. The first was the Paisley 10k where new member Alan Dick ran a pb to
finish in 39.55, followed by Marina McCallum in 44.14.
The Drymen Run for Romania 10k had last minute changes to
the route making it slightly longer in distance than normal but had Gerry
Montgomer y finishing 5th
overall in a time of 42.10. Pamela McCrossan won the ladies race in a time of
44.28 over the hilly course.
For the younger members of the club there was the National
Under 16 Age Group Championships which took place in Grangemouth Stadium. Emily
Paxton ran well in her heat of the 800m but unfortunately couldn’t do enough to
go through to the Finals. She finished in a time of 2.38.40. Andrew Hunter
competed in the 100m Heats to finish 2nd in 12.34, which qualified
him to run in the final where he ran well to finish in 12.25. He also ran in
the 200m heats where he came 3rd in 24.66, and competed in the Long
Jump (5.14m).
