New report weekended 3rd February

Last Saturday was the Scottish Athletics Masters Cross Country Championships which took place this year in Forres. The race was open to all men and women over the age of 35 with prizes for the first three in each 5-year age category (gold, silver and bronze medals). The women were off first along with the over 65 men all running 6k on grass and picturesque forest trails. Pamela McCrossan had an excellent run finishing strongly but just narrowly missing out on a gold medal in the over 50 age category by a measly 8 seconds to Edinburgh AC’s Sharyn Ramage.  Pamela’s time of 26.19 placed her 19th overall in a top class field of 59 runners. Marina McCallum also had a good run finishing in 30th position overall and 9th in the over 40 age category (27.38). Pete Cartwright also had an excellent run comfortably winning the gold medal in the over 70 age category in a time of 27.03.
The rest of the men ran next with 8k to complete. Fastest harrier was 40th placed Paul Carroll finishing in a time of 31.20, followed by Michael Divers (32.53), Gerry Montgomery (34.07), Hugh Laverty (36.11), and Peter Rudzinski (42.38).
The previous weekend was the SVHC (Scottish Veteran Harriers Club) Open Masters Road Relays at Strathclyde Park. We only had one male team running. First off was Michael Divers running the 6k course in 21.27, changing to Pete Cartwright (25.11), changing to Paul McKendry (25.10), then finally Bobby Young (29.06).
Next races for Clydesdale Harriers are the clubs own cross country championships at Carleith Farm (behind Clydebank Crematorium) this Saturday (9th Feb at 2pm), the Kirkintilloch Olympians 12.5k Road Race (Sunday 17th Feb), and the National Cross Country Championships at Falkirk’s Callendar Park (Saturday 23rd Feb).
If anyone is interested in joining the club we meet on Tuesdays at St Peter the Apostle (Seniors and Juniors from 6.45pm track session), Thursdays (Juniors at Lussett Park 7pm grass session and Seniors usually East Thompson Street at the Chapel car park for 6.45pm road session). Seniors also meet for a long run on Sundays opposite the Playdrome at 8.30am.
