LAP Championships
Some photos of the LAP championships which were held at Linwood today. Results to follow. A big thank you to all the organisers of this event which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the athletes, parents and coaches present.
LAP Championships
The sun was shinning at times at the LAP championships (West Dubartonshire, Helensburgh and Clydesdale all taking part) at Linwood today, although there was a cold wind at times. No official times yet, but I will post them when they become available. Please note I may have got some of the positions wrong, apologies if so, as I didn't manage to get all the results. Again, A big thank you to all the organisers of this event who made it a very enjoyable day for all the athletes, coaches and parents.

Linwood open graded
It was a lovely night at the Linwood open graded where several of the junior athletes were in action, excellent performances all round and quite a few PBs noted. Results:
Under 11G
Caitlin Stuart - one of our youngest harriers continues to progress well, ran in the 800m, finishing 6th in a great time of 3:25:42 and competing in the long jump, 1.90m.
Under 11B
Stephen Kane - another one of our youngest athletes, making excellent progress and competing well on the night to be placed 3rd in the 800m in 2.59.07, which was very close to his PB and 4th in the 100m in 16.42 secs (which I think might be a PB).
Under 13G
Rachel Busby - continues to improve after missing most of the summer track season through illness and injury and ran impressively in the 100m be be placed 1st in 15.49secs (PB), 1st in the 200m in 31.73 (PB)secs and 2nd in the 800m in 2.52.31.
Under 13B
Andrew Hunter - excellent performances from Andrew who continues to progress well, with a PB in the 100m to finish 3rd in 12.85 secs, the 200m to finish 3rd in 26.83(PB)and a great jump in the long jump ,4.66m.
Under 15G
Roisin McShea - another consistent and excellent performance by Roisin who competed and finished 4th in the 1500m in a time of 5.18.66, who ran really well after unfortunately missing the Great Scottish Run 3K due to illness last weekend.
Under 15B
David Campbell - a superb performance in the 800m running a massive PB of 2.31.64 and finishing 1st in his heat. David also competed in the shot put, throwing 4.04m.
Under 17G
Claire Reid - a great run in the 800m to be timed at 2.46.25 to finish 3rd in her heat and an excellent PB in the high jump of 1.35m.
It was really nice to see the excellent team spirit on show from all the junior harriers so well done to all the juniors who competed at the open graded meeting, who are all looking forward to the last track event of the season, at the LAP on Sunday.
Under 11G

Some Information
The Local Athletics Partnership Championships are on Sunday at Linwood. They are great frun and the club always does really well. This year we have 40 athletes entered in a total of well over 100 events (like three each for some, four for others and one or two for the Seniors). Rumour has it that Gerry Montgomery is making his track debut at the meeting in the 3000 metres race. If any of the senior club members who are not competing want to go and watch then they will be welcome and if they are prepared to help Phil out with the organisation of the team (eg get an athlete to an event in time!) they will be even more welcome!
James Austin was on the phone last night: he has had an injury that has set his training back a bit but will be out at the County Relays in October. He had an unfortunate week last week with two car mishaps. On Monday he was driving his friend's car when the timing belt broke and caused all sorts of damage. there are cheap repairs and expensive repairs for cars: this was a very expensive one. Then on Friday he was coming over the Kingston Bridge in his own car when the car behind ran into him. Plenty of witnesses and the other driver admitted culpability but his car was a write off all the same.
The Scottish Athletics AGM is on tomorrow and the club mandate is being carried by Colin Shields. It is quite important that we are represented as there are several quite important items up for discussion - the Six Year Plan for a start - and we know that Colin will not give the executive an easy ride!
And finally, there will be a final collection of Harriers brief lives following the last three collections. This one will be available from October and includes people that I was told I should have included in previous books (Bobby Boyd, Jack Boyd, John Morgan, etc), some that came to my attention as maybe coming into that category - the Three Amigos get ten or eleven pages to themselves for instance and after being hassled - and I DO mean hassled - by Allan Faulds, Doug Gemmell, Ian Leggett, Cliff Brown and Phil Dolan, I have a bit about myself. Let me know if you are interested.

Field Events
Field Events training will take place at Postie's Park in Dumbarton on Monday starting at 7:00 pm. Bobby Bell will be there to coach any throwers wanting to do some work while Mary Anne Savage will be looking after the Jumps with Paul Doherty (High Jump) and Donna Campbell (Long Jump). See anything interesting about the names? You've got it in one - there are two women involved. That's the first time for some time that we have had two women involved in coaching in the club. Bobby Bell has a superb record in working with throwers having worked with some top class hammer throwers (Lachie Carter was often over 50 metres) and shot putters (several over 14 metres) and we are lucky that he is now available again.
The Local Athletics Partnership Championships are at Linwood on September 13th this year and as usual the bus will be starting from Helensburgh and making its way to the venue via Dumbarton and Clydebank. Over the past few years the club has done well there and with the new field events assistance should do even better this time around.
Word is that the track at Scotstoun will be open for use from late October this year - I suppose that is a 'give or take a few days' estimate - and that might include access to the 135 metres indoor straight under what used to be the only stand there. Meanwhile back at home we still wait for the information about the opening for use of the track at the new St Peter the Apostle School although work is well under way there. The authority seems reluctant to let out the playing fields at some new schools across the area - and that includes football pitches - but we have approached a councillor and some officials to try to find out more about it.
Finally, the Startrack Scheme in Clydebank this summer will be at WHITECROOK TRACK where we used to train and which is currently used by the rugby club. We were turfed off with all the other user clubs in 1992 because Strathclyde Region thought it too costly to run. It is the only 8 lane, 400 metre track in West Dunbarton, East Dunbarton or Lomond and Bute and is not available for athletics. One of the officials who had recently seen it for the first time was amazed that it was there, that it was so good and that it was not used! Just take a wee wander down to Dean Street when the Startrack is on and see what you think!
